The
Woman Behind the Hook
What
can I say? To use a worn out pun, I'm "hooked on crochet". It’s
rare that you’ll find me without yarn and hook in hand,
or at least a book or magazine that relates to crochet and/or
yarn in some way. I enjoy my stash and my hooks, but more than
that, I love the things I can make and the homemade-giving aspect
the skills I've acquired since first picking up a hook allows
me. I also enjoy the friends that I've made because of this.
And it has encouraged me to pursue a career in this field. Time
will determine what that will be. Who knows--you just may see
my name in a crochet magazine in the future.
I'm
a certified crochet instructor through the Craft
Yarn Council of America and am pursuing crochet design on
a professional level. Additionally, I’m
an Associate Professional of the Crochet
Guild of America, and I am the founder of the Topeka
Crochet Guild, a local chapter of the CGOA. I've spent a
lot of hours learning all the things I know about crochet and
enjoy sharing that knowledge with others. For me, it's more
than a hobby; it has become a major part of my everyday life,
so I was very excited when Topeka
Magazine contacted me to be a small part of their Spring
2010 issue, highlighting my personal efforts and the work of
the guild.
In
addition to crochet, I’m also very crafty in other areas.
I enjoy sewing, cooking--especially baking, reading, and writing.
I know how to knit and have been known to pick up a knitting
loom from time to time, but I'm always drawn to crochet and
it's versitility. I feel there is nothing I cannot do with a
yarn or some other material and a hook. I also dabble with scrapbooking
and paper crafts. And buttons–I collect them, and am always
looking for ways to add them to my crafts--except for those
which are my most favorite. Those I save for a special project
that warrants their use.
The
Crochet Studio is a work-in-progress for me. It's the place
to check out my teaching schedule and how to enroll, find out
information about individual instruction, and read my blog to
keep up with the latest happenings. You'll also find my original
patterns here and other fun things pertaining to crochet.
I
am supported by a wonderful man who encourages me to pursue
this, a daughter who is growing up way too fast, and two dogs
who are just happy when I'm around to give them biscuits and
lots of love. A sweet kitty also has joined the pack--but, like
everyone else in the house, she stays away from the yarn.

Welcome
to my world, where life may not always be calm and quiet, but
it's almost certainly always good. And it's always wrapped in
yarn.
Happy
Crocheting,
